Fuel Metering Systems Practice Test

The throttle valve in a float-type carburetor is positioned between the venturi and the engine. This location is crucial because the throttle valve controls the amount of air-fuel mixture that flows into the engine, thus regulating engine power and speed. When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the throttle valve opens, allowing more air-fuel mixture to enter the engine, which increases engine performance.

This component works in conjunction with the venturi effect, where the narrowing in the carburetor creates lower pressure, drawing fuel from the float chamber into the airflow. The precise placement of the throttle valve helps ensure efficient fuel metering and optimal engine operation, directly impacting performance and drivability.

Other options indicate positions that do not suit the functional purpose of the throttle valve. For instance, placing it at the start of the fuel line or above the float chamber would not allow for proper control over the mixture entering the engine. Similarly, positioning it at the discharge nozzle would also not effectively regulate the fuel-air mix needed for combustion in response to the engine's requirements.
